Kevin Walker

Kevin Walker is the founder of Golden Rule Now. He was raised as a Methodist Christian but wanted to find a more universal approach to morality and spirituality.

After researching many religious and spiritual beliefs he came to a clear conclusion. Every religion or spiritual belief had one universal thread amongst them all. The Golden Rule. The Ethic of Reciprocity. "Treat others as they wish to be treated." There was no dogma needed. Nothing to decipher.

That was the start of Golden Rule Now.

To spread the universal nature of the golden rule and to perform random acts of kindness in our local communities.

Mindi's testimonial
They say that people come into your life for a reason. They say that in your lifetime you may be lucky enough to meet someone who changes you so irrevocably that they serve as your personal meridian of time. Perspectives are shifted to life before this person and life after this person. The Founder of The Golden Rule Now was that person for me.

I first met him while I was working as a secretary for an anatomical pathology company. Looking back, even that is an irony. I literally worked with human tissue every day. I catalogued and cared for the cellular pieces of others with a kind of emotional distance that permeated my emotions and perspective on life. Somewhere during the last several years of my life I had adopted a sense of cynicism. It had become the veil through which I saw the world.

I have never been one of those obnoxious ‘search for the truth’ kinds of people. At first when he would talk to me about his 2 and a half year search for the truth, I dismissed his ramblings as self-serving and delusional. His notions were at once too simple and too rudimentary to be effective. It was incredible to me that someone as obviously intelligent as he is, could be so easily misled.

This man vibrates with this sense of well-being. There is joy in his wake. He would always answer “fantastic”, when asked how his day was going. So when he would say “fantastic” I thought it was a jaded and sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek, flippant reply.

Historically I have struggled with perfectionism. As a child I learned to hustle for my worth. I believed that I was only as good as my accomplishments. Through a steady diet of unconditional love, unwavering support and gentle guidance over the course of a little less than a year he infused my spirit, my soul with joy. He held a mirror up to my soul and taught me how to learn to love again. And, not just myself, but other people. The idea that we are worthwhile simply by existing was a concept that I could not readily embrace.

There is something about sitting next to someone for eight hours a day, five days a week that affords the opportunity for a glimpse into that person’s authentic self. Using tools like vulnerability, humor, and blatant personal challenges I started to unravel the barriers that I have been erecting over the course of my life time.

His idea of cobbling together the core similarities that he has identified in the religions and spiritual paths of others into the Golden Rule demystifies motive. Doing something for the sake of “it being right.” Doing something because that is how we want to be treated. Doing good deeds for others with the simple plea to encourage others to do the same is a movement that takes great love of others and the passion to make a difference.

He took a broken hearted and cracked soul and imbued it with love again. He taught me about loving others in a way that was not self-serving or attention seeking. He taught me the power of what one person can do when that person lives what they talk about.
